SILVER

Silver  oh  silver
Where did you get your name?
Where did you come from?
Where can you be found?
Why do you torment us?
When are you responding to my questions?

You were made by man
Yet you make man run mad
Don’t you have human nature?
Oh! You aren’t human
So what are you?

Nothing compares to wisdom
Yet you wisely take it away from man
Your sight so captivating
Your name so alluring
What are you made of?

You darken the paths of kings
Writhing their hearts out of their chest
Squeezing humanity out of them
Leaving them void and empty headed
Why are you so inhuman?

You set brothers against each other
Breeding hatred in hearts of families
Cousins sitting on each other’s head
Sons not caring for their oldies
Are you really worth it?

Because of you, young flowers rid themselves of their beauty
Briefly garmented each day
Miserably posting themselves at street corners
Shamelessly hawking themselves at a pauper’s price
Seriously! Don’t you think you are denying them their innocence?

Because of you the pillars of homes are fallen
Strong gigantic men are beheaded
No more strong shoulders to lean on
No more role models for the baby generation
Can’t you just be fair for once?

Now this is my intuition
It’s you who’ve brought it back
Revived Sodom and Gomorrah ,the fallen cities
Pairing men with men, women with women
Defying nature. So what’s your promise to them?

You create greed, they call you corruption
You snatch us food, they call you hunger
Kings make you their bed, they say it’s inflation
You cause jealousy, they say it’s competition
Why are you so cunning?

I don’t say you are bad
But can you stop all these confusion
You make life easy, you keep us busy
Because of you we aren’t lazy

In wisdom you make kings rise
In foolishness you make them crumble
In wisdom you stir knowledge and insight
In foolishness people walk in darkness
You can create honor yet you can also cause misery

Those who seek wisdom find you
Those who seek you are hurt
Those who find wisdom lack you not
Those who find you lose wisdom
Yet you belong to wisdom
